Hi, my name is Doulene Walker. Born in Zimbabwe and brought up in Africa and Australia, I have been exposed to art in so many forms from a very early age.
My first formal introduction with art, were lessons with the great, late, Peter Birch. I continued with art throughout my schooling and afterwards throughout my life.
My art has taken many turns, using many different mediums. I began with Oil landscapes and I have now found my true love in abstract artwork using a variety of mediums, including oil paints, watercolours, acrylics, pastels, graphite and ink. I keep going back to my favourite oil paints and I will paint with these when I am in need of nostalgia and longing for my early memories of painting.
My inspiration comes from my up bringing in Australia and Africa. I have deep roots in both countries. You will see references to these in my paintings - I don't think about it, it just comes out from a deep subconscious.
I love the traditional Australian and African mark making and I am deeply inspired by these.
My abstract art requires that I trust my intuition and let go, adding texture, free flowing layers of colour, spontaneous movements, techniques and tools.
Mark making features heavily in my work, from organic, abstract, spontaneous mark making, to more structured patterns
